Beers and Wines

Our Bar Range

Our bar stocks beer, wine and spirits that, although not strictly organic, rely heavily on natural brewing, distilling and fermenting methods. So come in and try one of our local craft beers.

Beers

We have eight craft beers on tap at all times – although, to keep it interesting and broaden your horizons, the beer varies over time. Our two staple beers are Guinness and Kilkenny. The other six craft beers vary.

We purchase based on what is available locally (within 1/2 an hour of Maitland). We are passionate about supporting local craft beer makers.

Wines

We serve Tamburlaine wines extensively but not exclusively. Tamburlaine is Australia’s largest producer of organic wines. Established in 1966 in the famous Pokolbin district of the Hunter Valley, Tamburlaine has continued to expanded its production and holdings over the decades. Growing in a diverse set to climates – from the Hunter through to the cooler climate around Orange in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales – the winery brings a range of red, white and sparkling wines that reflect diversity of the climates in which they grow.

Tamburlaine wines are produced using grapes grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and artificial fertilizers on the farm. Their production process does not use additives which are residual in the end product, with the exception of careful use of sulphur dioxide to prevent spoilage & premature oxidation.

Reserve wines are available.

Spirits

In staying true to the desire to rely on natural brewing, distilling and fermenting methods, our spirits are also naturally distilled wherever possible.

Testimonials

  • Five Course Degustation

Valentine's day was wonderful. Thanks Aaron. We really enjoyed ourselves. We thought we might have to get wheeled out in a wheelchair but a little rest after that fabulous dessert was all we needed. Instead of being "wheeled out" we just "waddled out". The prawn avocado salad with mango, roquette and sweet lime dressing was a great start. Thanks for accommodating me on the zucchini flowers (I would have enjoyed them but the whole coeliac thing got in the way). I'm not a big fan of duck but the duck breast with baked plum, hoisin plum glaze, broccolini and parsnip puree was a hit. By the time the braised lamb shoulder arrived (with mash, beans and sweet potato crisps no less) we thought we were "goooone' as they say but the chocolate mousse with a coffee-soaked chocolate brownie and strawberries really finished things off. Thanks again Aaron!

About Us

The Old Victoria has had many incarnations since its original 1837 construction. Its most recent incarnation, by James Morgan, has been to restore the building to its original intent as a hotel. The grandeur of the building and its history is evident in every aspect of the hotel. For locals The Old Victoria is a staple of their social life. For visitors this is a destination that must be experienced.
